December Working Lunch: Design Opportunity on the iPhone

DEC 9, 2009 – In the second quarter of 2009, Apple sold 5.2 million iPhones. Compared to second quarter 2008's 717,000 iPhones sold, that marks a 626 percent growth within just one year. As designers and business people - this should signal a new field of potential for design, marketing and even creative release  — the iPhone application.

Jason Franzen, founder of FORMation, has dived into that field — with his first app, Kern receiving Boing Boing's designation as “the iPhone’s first design-nerd game”. Three and a half app releases later, and two more on the horizon, Jason has a wealth of knowledge to share on iPhone application development for designers. This Working Lunch will start with discussion of Jason's entrance into the app development field, his process, app samples, working with coders and lastly, marketing the applications.

Jason is a multi-disciplined design entrepreneur with a wide array of interests and skills, including design, architecture, photography, typography and film.  He has worked as an independent designer for nearly two decades with experiences ranging from brand development and product design to business strategy and consulting.
