In Memory of Mel Shanks

A man who lived life to the fullest and brought life to his many friends has passed. Mel Shanks died last Saturday evening of a heart attack in St. Augustine, Florida.

Mel was 58 and had two wonderful daughters, Erin and Lindsey. He was an Associate Professor of Art at Flagler College. He had many friends in the DSVC during his many years in Dallas and was best known as "El Jefe" of the Los Batos Locos. He loved teaching, his friends, traveling, and adventure. But most of all, he loved life.

Survey: "What books would you consider 'Required Reading' for any designer, at any stage in their career?"

Its cool, check out the April 2006 rough here, and the graphic attached below (for those not wanting to wait for the PDF to download and open).

The new DSVC Board has been busy preparing for the first meeting of the year, always one of the best attended of the season.

While working on the new DSVC site, the 50th anniversary reminded me of wayback, when Shawn at Focus2 first put up the VERY FIRST DSVC site... See it HERE

Times were certainly different, but it got us launched into the internets (hah) ahead of many clubs, at that time. Yeah, we had a guestbook and that was pretty darn cutting edge then!
